The Cultural Olympiad

The nation’s build up to the 2012 Olympic games is a chance to create unique collaborations and innovations between communities and cultural sectors; and support the learning, skills and personal development of young people and volunteers.

TheWholeStory’s programmes can underpin the personal development, confidence raising and self-expression of young people, community champions, minority groups and volunteers participating in all the different styles of Cultural Olympiad projects whether they be artistic, dramatic, musical or cross-arts in nature.

Our workshops give participants the confidence to participate fully, develop their opinions and express them clearly, authentically and confidently to their peers, local community and your visitors.

In particular, TheWholeStory’s extensive experience of working with collections and objects to illicit personal responses to them, makes us ideally suited to delivery of the ‘Stories of the World’ strand of the Cultural Olympiad. Our story-building techniques allow workshop participants to connect deeply with objects, collections and ideas; explore their relationship with them and with those of others locally and globally, before presenting them dynamically in a variety of media.

How Storytelling can enhance your organisation, property, staff and volunteers:

Do staff and volunteers deliver tours in a natural, engaging and enthusiastic style?

Do your staff and volunteers know how to respond to visitor’s questions?

What is the principal narrative of your property or museum and are the stories told by staff and volunteers coherent with it?

Can staff improvise and be sensitive to different audiences and edit themselves accordingly?

Do staff and volunteers have an active interest in the people and stories related to your museum or property, from the past and present?

Do staff and volunteers contribute to creating a relationship between the museum or property and the visitor?
