Situation:
The Geffrye Museum use storytelling as an integral part of their school and pre-school visit activities. The education department have a selection of stories they use to animate the rooms, but felt that these stories needed refreshing. They also hoped that we would help the current education team could take ownership of these stories, which had been created by previous incumbents.
Solution:
We lead a 1-day training to enhance the team’s storytelling skills, to reanimate and refresh the stories and inspire the creation of new stories. Throughout the workshop, staff learnt to vary their content depending on their audience, as well as ways to include large amounts of factual data in an exciting and memorable context.
Results:
The staff workshop enhanced each team member’s own style of storytelling; providing the museum with a broader selection of storytellers to work with. Each member felt more comfortable and expert in their interpretation abilities and thought of other ways they would use the skills learnt within their work. The original stories will continue to be used but each storyteller can now bring something unique and special to each performance.
