Speaking for Success - Presentation Skills

Situation:
The NHS Institute is the first port of call for NHS staff, at all levels and from all disciplines, to turn to when seeking help to turn ideas for change, within their workplace, into action. The Institute found that many of its members' great ideas were not getting the chance they deserved, as they were not presented successfully.

Solution:
The Institute commissioned TheWholeStory to create Speaking for Success, a one-day course that would teach participants to create powerful, exciting and memorable proposals within the structure and framework of a story. The intense workshop had participants working alone and in pairs to learn the tools and techniques of storytelling required to explore and create an effective presentation. They then put these skills immediately into practice by preparing presentations which were pitched at the end of the day.

Results:
All participants were taken well beyond their comfort zones, and rose to the challenge of incorporating new techniques into their presentations. Presenters and audience appreciated a marked improvement in both delivery style and content. Peer observation, reviewing and feedback throughout helped participants learn from each other's personal styles, as well as build an understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses. Time was given to reflect on the ways in which what had been learnt would be applied when returning to work, with each participant identifying and committing to specific targets.
