Situation:
A 1-form entry school in Hackney, NE London, wanted a _ day workshop, for their year 5. As part of Black History Month, they were to creatively investigate the themes of Immigration and Differences. The school wanted the children to use a selection of media throughout the project.

Solution:
We created Home Stories, an afternoon investigating the diverse roots and backgrounds shared within the class. 2 students were chosen to tell their stories to the class and then to be interviewed to discover more about their home in London, their home in their country of origin and the journey in between. Half the class took responsibility for the each story. The groups created a physical storyboard and each student then represented a moment within it, which they illustrated and could tell so as to create an ensemble prsentation at the end of the afternoon.

Results:
The class was left with the beginnings of a powerful, performable piece; the creation of which had required them all to consider feelings of displacement, fear, hope, difference and the unifying embrace of friendship and family. For the children that told their stories the activity was at first a challenge but they enjoyed their fellow students interest in them and delighted in how other children interpreted their story.
