Training for Early Years Practitioners

Following our experience with Westminster Early Years Services we are able to offer Early Years Practitioners a variety of practical activities, using storytelling and relevant to the EYFS, to enhance interaction between and with children, leading them to an enriching, confidence building experience; involving vocabulary, expression, language, creativity, emotional intelligence, sociability and thinking.

We have developed practical training sessions that enable participants to:

1: Tell and interpret stories without a book,
2: Use objects to inspire imaginative story creation with children,
3: Create stories through familiar songs and rhymes with which to initiate interaction and to broach behavioural and other issues.

Our previous Early Years participants have found applications for the training in how they:
- develop language through speaking and listening
- highlight, model, and explore issues and behaviour
- introduce and model sentence structure, vocabulary and language
- initiate creative interaction, communication and play between children
- animate and reinvigorate story time

Our Storytelling for Early Years Practitioners workshops are offered over three half-days or a combination of two over a full day. Each workshop providing different specific skills associated with a particular storytelling activity.

Participants are asked to reflect on the applications of each workshop at the start and end of each session. To further ensure the development and sustainability of the learning participants keep a reflective learning log and are encouraged to share practice within their setting.

We recommend group sizes of between 6 to 14 participants.
Participants will be provided with handbooks to accompany the workshops.
