Storytelling for Showcasing to Funders

Situation:
Following on from successful workshops we had delivered, Capital Carers invited us to help them create a showcase feedback to their funders and other funded groups. The brief was to involve the children in every aspect of the process and to deliver a presentation. Themes to be explored were: Who is a carer? What does that entail? And what role does Capital Carers play in their life?

Solution:
In consultation with Capital Carers we devised a day's workshop exploring the outlined themes using Storytelling, Drama and Art. By the end of the day, the young carers had created their presentation piece, writing their own script, and rehearsing it to a performable standard. We accompanied them at the showcase, supported the young carers and introduced the presentation.

Results:
Throughout the workshop the young carers shared experiences and found a common ground. By exploring the positive as well as challenging aspects of caring, they identified the many strengths and essential life-skills they had gained. The young carers also explored the many exciting aspirations they had for their futures and began considering the steps required to achieve them.

“Lily and Josh provide good firm boundaries for children. Especially those that were trying to push them at times. Nice examples given for different exercises, so those who may not have fully understood the initial explanation would then see what was meant through example. Often delivered in a fun way with a sense of humour which helps motivate the children to join in and think what they want to do or say. Lily and Josh engaged well with all personalities.”
